Chinese Orchestra Performance at Gem In Mall

The mall capped the Lunar New Year celebrations on 2 March 2018, also the 15th day of Chinese New Year (“Chap Goh Meh”), on a sweet note as a group of students from the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman Sg Long Chinese Orchestra (UTARSLCO) performed melodious tunes on Chinese traditional instruments to the delight of the audience comprising employees from the Group of Companies and mall shoppers.

UTARSLCO was established in June 2015 and aims to share the love of music and Chinese traditional instruments to the public through engaged performances, musical showcases and music bootcamps. Instruments in a Chinese orchestra are typically divided into 5 categories: bowed strings, plucked strings, wind, bass and percussion, which we had the opportunity to watch them all during the session! The group presented a total of 8 songs, an eclectic yet harmonious mix of Chinese cultural songs as well as contemporary ones played on Chinese traditional instruments.
